But overall this is still hands down Snyder's best Batman story!

I think this is one of the best Batman designs though. Disclaimer: I had never heard of Greg Cupullo before this comic. The humor! Batman: The Court of Owls Saga is a giant sized bag of awesome that reminds me why I will always be a Batman fangirl.

Despite being a Batman fan, I knew very little about the Court of Owls story. And to make the comic even greater, the story definitely matches the art so that you’re constantly struggling whether to quickly glance over the art so you can get more of the story or just forget the story and immerse yourself in the art. [The idea is that there is some kind of mysterious governing body that has been secretly determining Gotham's history since possibly as far back as the Revolutionary War. The thing is, this is an experienced Bruce Wayne, and he believes that he has mapped and knows the city of Gotham better than anyone, and refuses to acknowledge the possibility of the existence of the Court of Owls. It had a couple of different mysteries threading through the primary storyline that both added and took away from the primary story. One of the major (and fair) critiques of Batman is that Bruce Wayne could do more good for Gotham with his billions of dollars than he ever could as a masked vigilante.

His style is really defined and very… pulpy, in a way. Luckily, a mix of both of these options is possible with the Absolute Edition, as both are put on display in this prestige format.This is why I read comics.

When his people, Gotham's people, fall under attack, Batman rises to occasion with true grit and hard nosed determination. Hilarious stuff, but in the best way possible and in a super badass way. Luckily I can say that the Book holds up and I get the hype about it, but it still comes with some flaws. You know what, that may be one of the two elements in Snyder’s stories that have really attracted me: the mystery! I could barely finish it. The only thing that feels real about it is the author’s urge to make us believe in this piece of fiction by over-explaining every little detail of it. This comic is what made me start reading DC and Batman in particular.

Hence, the coming conflict between Batman and this Court of Owls over the course of the story. In some issues, it was pretty spectacular; in other issues, it was disappointing. With Bruce though? *gasp* Yeah, I know!

Of all mainstay DC characters, I have found his stories provide the most human element. Then this is the book to pick up. It was ok, but nothing unforgettable.I've loved this story since It's initial publication in single issue format. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo give a dark, brooding Batman adventure that's perfect for Halloween, or perhaps fall in general.

With bonus stories and a how its made guide, the story is supersized for an all you can read extra value of brilliance.
